No doubt Breen deserves to be the most hated man in the world and should be condemned as the traitor he is for cooperating with the Combine. Still, the Overwatch soldiers are actually more effective in combat though because of their ability to throw grenades and their slightly larger amount of health, and with most weapons Rebels and Combine soldiers are on par in accuracy. Once self-replicating organic creatures that originated from different worlds, they were enslaved and assimilated into the Combine, much like the humans of Earth. During Half-Life 2 ' s development, various concepts for Combine non-player characters were cut. Twenty years later, a similar problem threatens to happen: the Combine have mostly turned their attentions away from Earth to allow their local puppet Dr. Possibly a side effect of gene alteration. See Combine weapons. In General A powerful trans-dimensional alien empire, they conquered the Earth and are the main antagonists of Half-Life 2 and its Episodes, as well as Half-Life: Alyx. The game focuses on the efforts of Alyx Vance, her father Eli, and fellow resistance member Russell, as they attempt to infiltrate a massive Combine vault, believing it possesses a weapon that they could use to weaken the Combine occupation on Earth. They are always the most important foes to take care of in any battle featuring them. At the end of the day, they are just here to extract our resources and ship it back home. Their destination is almost certainly not pleasant, and when combined with a surgical procedure that half-lobotomizes people you get an entire army of barely human soldiers who rather stoically throwing themselves to their deaths trying to kill as many rebels as they can.
